Aside from unique family traditions we assign to the fourth Thursday in November, by definition the meaning of the day is pretty simple: [thangks-giv-ing] 1. the act of giving thanks; grateful acknowledgement of benefits or favors 2. an expression of thanks, especially to God 3. a public celebration in acknowledgement of divine favor or kindness.

Let's face it, we all have so much for which to be grateful. Sometimes it is hard to believe there are families in our community that are struggling to get by. On Thanksgiving morning, we have a chance to show real gratitude and help those who need it most.

The 13th annual Turkey Rock Trot (http://www.turkeyrocktrot.com) 5K fun run/walk/stroll will be held with the proceeds going to our community partner Douglas/Elbert Task Force (www.detaskforce.org). New for this year is a route that goes through downtown Castle Rock with bands and cheer teams pumping up the participants!

The Village Idiots Cycling Club will be responsible for the course marshaling. If you aren't planning on participating, I'd like to invite you, your family, and friends to come out and volunteer to help make the TRT a huge success. You don't need to be a Club member. The hours will be roughly 8am - 11am, so you will have plenty of time to get home and tend to your family traditions.

No special skills or previous experience is required...just a big heart and a big smile!

Of course, high school students looking to fulfill their community service hours can have their forms signed.

Let me know if you have any questions. Also, feel free to forward this to any friends, family, and neighbors that may be interested in helping out as well!
